Google has announced an amazing new Quick Share system for Android devices today at CES, developed in collaboration with Samsung. The new system is set to replace Google’s Nearby Share, which was introduced in 2020.

Interestingly, Google has adopted Samsung’s naming convention for this new feature. The Quick Share system is described as a merger of the best features of both companies, providing a better default option for peer-to-peer content sharing across different devices running Android or Chrome OS.

Additionally, Google is partnering with top PC manufacturers like LG to offer Quick Share as a pre-installed app in Windows PCs in the future. This new system simplifies the sharing process; With just one tap on the quick share icon, users can see a list of nearby devices available for sharing.

Users have the ability to control who can search their device and send files. They can choose from only their contacts, or only their own devices, like everyone else. The new Quick Share feature is expected to begin rolling out to devices currently enabled with Nearby Share in February.

In other updates, Google’s Fast Pair is set to expand to Chromecast with Google TV within the next month and more Google TV devices later this year. This feature allows to easily connect compatible headphones or speakers to Google TV with just one tap. It also includes a convenient audio output control to easily switch back to the TV’s default audio.

Starting today, users can cast TikTok content to Chromecast-enabled devices. This functionality will soon expand to live videos on TikTok.

In 2024, LG’s TV lineup, including LG Hospitality and LG Healthcare, will come with Chromecast built-in. This integration will enable users to cast content from their phones directly to LG TVs in hotel or hospital rooms. Google reports that there are currently more than 220 million monthly active users on Google TV and other Android TV devices.

A new casting feature being introduced later this year will allow users to transfer what they’re playing on Spotify and YouTube Music from a compatible Pixel phone to a docked Pixel tablet when they’re nearby. This feature is designed for seamless audio transition from listening on the go to listening at home.

LG TVs and select Google TVs and other Android TV devices are set to become the hub for Google Home. This will allow devices supporting the Matter protocol to be added to the home network and allow local control through the Google Home app.

Finally, Google has enhanced Android Auto with new features, including options to customize the wallpaper of the Chrome browser and infotainment screens in cars.
