Last month, i.e. in February, Google had removed a feature called Nearby Places Search from its dialer app (beta version) in Android and now, in the latest stable version (version 125), this feature has finally been removed. This feature also does not appear in the settings of the Google Dialer app. This feature will use your location to consider nearby objects or places. Additionally, the prompt has been updated from “Find contacts and locations” to “Find contacts.”

Some users are liking the removal of this feature. However, according to Google, only a small number of users use this feature. Google has also confirmed that in their experience, this feature was not always accurate. Now, officially Google is asking its users to use search or maps for mobile numbers.

Why Google has removed this feature?

Google has removed this feature so they can focus on creating the highest quality, most reliable, and most innovative experience in phone calls.

For example, in 2023 we launched new Call Screen AI features, Hold for Me and Direct My Call support, and Call Screen Transcripts on your Pixel Watch in additional countries. There’s a lot planned for 2024 and our team will be working hard all year to launch and improve more ways to improve your phone experience.

In the latest release of the Pixel feature, Google introduced the “Hello?” Was presented. Button for silent line in call screen, bidding to caller. Additionally, there is “I’ll be right there” – “Just a second, to check with the person you called” to give you extra time before answering.
