Recently, Nothing released Nothing OS 2.5.1 stable update based on Android 14 for phone users (2). This additional feature has been provided to the users of Open Beta first and will be released to other users soon. The update brings a number of new features in customization and new gestures. New widgets and some additions to the glyphs interface.

The update also brings improvements in various key aspects like performance, battery life, and smoothness of the UI. Let’s now take a look at the performance improvements with Nothing OS 2.5.1 on the open beta update.

Nothing performance test for phone (2) after updating Nothing OS 2.5.1

Nothing Phone (2) comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which is based on 4nm TSMC fabrication and is a very powerful and capable processor. It is also equipped with Adreno 730 GPU and the latest LPDDR5 RAM type and fast UFS 3.1 storage.

We ran the Geekbench 6 CPU benchmark test on our Nothing phone (2) and saw some improvement in multi-core scores, with the score increasing by 43 points compared to the open beta version. While the single core score remained almost the same.

GPU benchmarks lost 41 points compared to the previous version, Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 2. Thus the Geekbench results for CPU are better with the stable version but the GPU scores are not.

We also conducted a CPU throttling test which determines consistency in processor performance. This tells us that when the processor is pushed to its limits it grinds to a halt. We ran the test for 15 minutes, with the previous build limiting the CPU to 70% of its maximum performance and the new 2.5.1 stable version limiting it to 74%, although the phone (2) provided a lower average GIPS score with Nothing OS 2.5. did. .1 compared to the open beta version, with a difference of about 12000 points. This shows that no work has been done on improving throttling performance, but it has affected performance to some extent. Better throttling performance means it can handle CPU-intensive tasks for longer periods of time without dropping performance.

We also ran an AnTuTu benchmark test to monitor changes in the overall performance of the smartphone and here, the phone (2) with stable Nothing OS 2.5.1 outperformed the previous build by a difference of almost 80000 points. The phone (2) also gets better GPU scores compared to the previous version.

The tests gave mixed opinions about the performance of the phone (2) post and before the update, but overall the scores were better with the Android 14 stable update. After the latest update, we have seen faster animations, app opening speed, and good performance. Nothing has definitely worked to make the phone (2) a consistently good performer with the latest Nothing OS 2.5.1 update based on Android 14.
