GIPHY, the leader in visual expression and creation, is joining The Facebook Company today as part of the Instagram team. GIPHY makes everyday conversations more entertaining, and so we plan to integrate their GIF library into Instagram and our other apps to give people the perfect way to express themselves.
Many people in our community already know and love GIPHY. In fact, 50% of GIPHY’s traffic comes from the Facebook family of apps, with half of that coming from Instagram alone. By bringing Instagram and GIPHY together, we can make it easier for people to find the right GIFs and stickers in Stories and Direct. Both of our services have been, and will continue to be, huge supporters of the creator and artist community. Together, we can make it easier for anyone to create their work and share it with the world.
We’ve used GIPHY’s API for years, not only in Instagram, but also in the Facebook app, Messenger, and WhatsApp. GIPHY will continue to operate its library (including its global content collection), and we look forward to investing further in its technology and relationships with content and API partners. People will still be able to upload GIFs; Developers and API partners will continue to have equal access to GIPHY’s API; And GIPHY’s creative community will still be able to create great content.
GIFs and stickers give people creative and meaningful ways to express themselves. We see the positives in how people use GIPHY across our products today, and we know that bringing the creativity and talent of the GIPHY team with us will only accelerate how people are connecting with each other through visuals.
